all good things must come to an end dept.- by order of TT Allen i am no longer in the badcocks- i will always be a badcock, but as far as playing drums go, my services are no longer needed.

positive noise just got back from a 10 day east coast tour.

sheepherder just recorded a live album @ hackett lake, recorded by kevin from posi-noise! can't wait for that to be mastered. as far as i know the sheepherder/lowlifescum split 7" on 3358 records is still in the works.

be on the lookout @ our local watering holes for MANIFESTO featuring dave bayes from ned nibiru on vocals, jake from sheepherder/badcocks/twat/pb's on bass, donny davis is playing drums, and i can never remember their guitar player's name, but he rips.

an icepick old timer started a group on facebook called- i used to hang out at the icepick. lots of old, great pics and a few flyers to boot- funny thing- the people are still around and so is the icepick, but why aren't they at the shows? search for it or I’ll probably post a link soon!!!

So the show Sunday was the bomb and the show Monday bombed...go us. Thanks to Casey & Travis for postin' flyers on here & helpin' out since I moved outta town again. Interesting I still try to keep this fucking thing alive...but i do. It totally sucked having our host get hacked shortly after browneyepie was starting to get it's shit together and get back on track...columns were happening- I don't know how everyone feels about doing columns. while a weekly topic was fun- and we may give it a go again- you wouldn't believe how hard it is to come up with a weekly topic. maybe it's just me- bronwen helped a lot and always seemed to have a suggestion. the person that suggested doing themes continues to write an occasional zine, but crapped out on writing columns right after suggesting the idea...so i'll get in touch with columnists or vice-versa & maybe we can figure something out- i've got an idea up my sleeve to make it easier on me, which would totally rule...so we'll see. it's on the front burner fo sho! FO SHO!!!

i know a lot of you younger punks think it's pointless, but even if you don't agree with my politics, it's still important to vote- this is probably going to be the most historic voting time of our lives, unless some of you were around for kennedy! if obama wins, this country will see serious change in a positive direction for years to come! obama can get us out of the mess bush jr. put us in!!!

if you don't know about the proposals, #1 is for the use of medical marijuana, which in my opinion will ultimately lead to decriminalization (in time...), and #2 supports the use of stem cell research, which contrary to popular belief, will not be funded through tax money, but will be using cells that would normally be thrown away! imagine cures for cancer, diabetes, and other things that plague our friends and families lives!!!! it will all come from stem cell research!!!

so go vote! it only takes a minute or two...

ended up getting to go see hombrinus dudes, magrudergrind, skarp, & phobia at the daac on 3.29-
it was a fucking rad show! hombrinus dudes' drummer now lives in north carolina, so he flew in for the gig...rockstar style! maurice quit magrudergrind. they are still rad, but i was looking forward to seeing maurice... maybe next time. skarp- i think they're my new favorite band for the moment. got a rad skarp shirt & a limited to 500 pressing bury your dead 12" picture disc. got a handful of records from ryan and claire (punx before profits (who also let me paypal them the loot the next day! thanks again!!!)). and then phobia. rumors were running around all over that phobia had a $800 guarantee, and since the daac holds 80 people, at $10 a pop, the guarantee was met. but i wondered about the other 3 bands, the venue, and whoever booked it... what were they getting? so i asked skarp about this via myspace, and this is their response:

Body	There was a lot of talk and rumors going around about Phobia on this tour, none is quite sure where it came from but what was being said was that Phobia had between an $800 and $1000 guarantee per show on this tour, we even heard a couple times people saying (or typing) that phobia takes all the money per show and Magrudergrind and Skarp do not get paid. These acusitions are completely false and ridiculous. There were absolutely no guarantees on this tour, Phobia had none and asked for none, neither did Magrudergrind or Skarp. During the booking of this tour the guy who did most of the booking talked to each promoter and said that we were hoping for at least $600 per show, for the full package of all 3 bands, not per band. This was what we were hoping for, there was never any contracts, never any solid guarantees, we were hoping for $200 a night per band which is in no way asking a lot considering gas is $4.50 in many places on the east and mid west. We have heard and seen a lot of shit talking about Phobia demanding insane amounts of money, of course noone ever confronted Phobia to find out what the real deal was, just talked shit behind their backs, talked shit in message boards and ever spray painted shit about them at venues we played at ("Fuck Phobia, $800 guarantees are not punk", no assholes defacing the inside of the only fucking punk run collective that brings shows into your town so that you can enjoy them without profiting off of you in not fucking punk") Bottom line is Phobia had no guarantee, this tour package had no guarantee, everything was split three ways evenly, some shows did well payout wise some shows did not, where it didnt even cover the gas it took us to get to the show. thats life and thats punk fucking rock for you, if any of the bands on this tour went out expecting to make money then we wouldnt be touring in the first place, especially phobia who has been playing grind and touring this way for 18 years. So instead of starting and spreading rumors about bands that are just trying to play music, hit the road and have fun with friends, confront the situation when it arises with the people involved, please, Magrudergrind, Phobia and Skarp are all more than happy to discuss anything of concern at anytime, but please lets keep this shit punk and refrain from the shit talking internet gossip, leave that shit to the kids with the floppy bangs, white belts and my chemical romance shirts .

...so there you have it, straight from skarps mouth...

here's an excerpt from an email exchange with an old friend this morning, whom i haven't seen in years:

it's weird- the paths we take and end up on. it's like the first time i heard punk rock music and it just hit me, and going to the ice pick for the first time- i knew that's what i wanted to be- or do... in high school college was the last thing i wanted to do- i remember sitting in government class and some guy from the bank came in to talk, and he said something like "i'm sure you all want to be rich when you grow up!"
i raised my hand and said "i didn't- that i wanted to be punk rock, be in punk rock bands, tour the world, and be poor."
i slept a lot in that class (yet somehow i think i managed to get an 'a' in it)- after i said that norm told me "i could go to sleep now if i wanted..."
and i did.

i stumbled upon this blog awhile ago: fugitive equilibrium.
it's a rad blog by a rad dude marc, and he reviews 7"records and posts .mp3's along with cover art and excellent reviews. lots of older stuff that a lot of you have probably never seen... he also has a lot of links to similar blogs... tons of out of print shit is up and out there for the pickin'! rad... i guess that's the word for the day.

as usual, my idea of podcasts seems to be turning into a pipe dream, but i still wanna make it happen, it just might take a little longer than i thought.

i deleted the warehouse pics that were up. i wanna figure out a way/place that everyone could post pics to, but i think i said that last time...

and it looks like the columns are done again. don't know what happened.

also, i got a promo disc a little while back from just rock pr- the band: DESTROY EVERYTHING from chicago- the lp is titled "FREEDOM OF SPEECH MEANS TALK IS CHEAP". veterans of the scene, they bring their own brand of p-rock to the table- fast and catchy. starting around '96 from the ashes of two other chicago bands- cigarettes and the insane war tomatoes. released 4.1.08 on tent city records, they kinda remind me of a mix between face to face and nofx with a lot more snot. spikey hair/no hair/who cares...it's a decent, catchy album that yr sure to enjoy. i fucked up by not posting this earlier- they played saginaw on the 13th... my bad. apologies...

also, june 20-21st, in muskegon, is the rock for rosie fest, a 2 day backyard event to help benefit a 3 year old with cancer. flyer/more info...

and, while it's not a punk rock event, i will be covering the ROTHBURY festival july 3-6, thanks to megan @ madison house publicity!!!

ok. it's april. it's spring time. and i haven't heard of shit going on, except for these sunday shows at the daac, which are next to impossible for me to make it to... note to self and the two other people that look at this- see if karen in gr will do gr updates! good idea.

the short version: the long awaited bep comp entitled roots: vol one has been put on hold for now, but instead, starting next month (if i get more hosting space) i will be doing either a once a month or biweekly podcast!

the long version (follow my brain...)

another good idea i once had was a west michigan cd comp of local 80's punk rock. some of the best shit that you probably never heard. faithful readers might remember me mentioning said comp several times in previous months. i had 100 discs half hand screened with only one more color to go. i had finished the front and back artwork (on a totally different note, our own piece of work, lowlife art will be back around the end of the month!) and even those pain in the ass side panels. i had a couple test prints made and they fit perfect. i had most of the bands and songs picked out that i felt essential in muskegon/west mi. p-rock for your ears. shit that i thought would blow you away- even if some of it was not your politics, a lot of the songs are things we all deal with- even if it's not part of your lifestyle, these things were/are part of our scene- like it or not.
anyways, i had the shit pretty much down, and permission from most of the bands- not that something as trivial as permission mattered/s to me when it comes to a project like this. it is a part of our history, and as a dweller on past events, i felt- and in a big way still feel that this is an important thing to do- even if only 50 people ever heard it- it could quite possibly change their lives- or so i think...at the very least the consumer would have access to rad shit that has long been archived in the personal stashes of a few hundred people at most. anyways, for the sake of being fair, i contacted most of the bands and the ones i did talk to were pretty stoked about it.
so everything seemed a go. i just had to finalize the track list, talk to one more band, get the inserts and all that printed and cut, and then inserted. it all sounds rad as i type, but i now know it was a pipe dream for the most part, and here's why: have you noticed all the past tense talk? i know, and if you know me, that i tend to procrastinate. sometimes a lot- shit- look at the state of the pie-online, print- which is long overdue, the shitshop, the news (but i gotta give big ups to casey and travis for helping out- but seriously, if you have some news about a local, punk rock (whatever THAT means these days- it is much more than music-), send it in!!! tell one of those two dudes or tell me. this was originally started by me, but fairly quickly became a community project- an important, yet sometimes troublesome project- but it made me feel good to do, and to communicate with others and have others share their personal thoughts/stories/or whatever the fuck they felt like writing that week. i miss the pain in the ass that putting up columns can be every week... living where i do, i'm out of the loop for the most part, even if i'm in muskegon a few times a month- that has always been my biggest complaint- people not sending shit in- because when this site was thriving, i felt like there was a strong bond with everyone in our scene- even with all of it's little subgroups and whatnot. when this became a community project, it took part- no matter how small of a part, but a part nonetheless, of our community to make it happen- even when there was a lot of bad shit going on and in-scene fights and just plain bullshit- we were still together. but i have seriously wandered off subject here- the cd comp. well, it got set aside from lack of motivation and a bunch of other excuses- some got used for personal use when we ran out of blanks, and a big stack of them got used for the second pressing of lowlife's first album. but there is still a stack of them. maybe something limited in the future- but i never stopped thinking about putting it out. then the other day i was walking my dog in the woods with headphones on, listening to an old MRR podcast, and i thought fuck yeah! that's the answer... podcasts. i just need to find some hosting space for it. i'm planning on doing a half hour show once a month- maybe twice depending on how it goes. i've got a lot of rad ideas for it (or so i think)- but if you want your band's shit on it, contact me for the address. so that's my plan for next month- the first installment of bep podcasts will be out sometime in may!
other than that, i'm tired, i'm wired...maybe i should try counting sheep...

i got a new job. the southern house is falling apart. the downstairs got evicted, and the upstairs is freezing with no heat. fuck our landlord, and fuck DTE energy. both are wangs. I have a new job at the Health hutt which consumes my entire mon-thur life. one of these days im brining my laptop to Mouse House to see if they can fix it. hold tight.

So a quick update while I am sitting in Multimedia Digitizing class. Class right... like I have any class? My teacher is teaching us great ways to steal music though...

The McGraft Park show ended up going very well... kuddos to Casey Loring for renting that out. And where the fuck were Ivan and Dark Sky Black Sun??? Dont be an Idiot... stay punk. I guess punks are the only ones who show up to outdoor shows anymore. Tenebrous was very good. Totally brutal metal. Good to see Duckbomb again too... there was a tinge of nostalgia to hearing Imagine Being Cool again. Thanks guys.

Ice Pick show was amazing also. If you weren't there, what a square. Tenebrous brought the metal again... good to see them. Lowlife Scum brought the scum... well not really. They did play for an hour. Bee must have gotten hit in the head 10 times... good work at staying at it Bee. We were all proud. Then a new band came through, First Strike. They had a hard audience to win over and really played it up. West coast hardcore punk. People liked it? I think they did. Kudos to Kyle Grissom... first time on the Ice Pick stage. Takin beer cans and not missing a beat. Good work son.

First off, thank you to all you hardcore dancers, 13 year old vandals, and drunk drivers. You have ruined another venue again. This time the fruitport library basement. Yep. No more.

In other news, Sheepherder going on tour??? Lowlife and Antisocial to follow. Drunkeness will ensue im sure. Lets give them a proper send off. Bring them Faygo and ramen noodles. I would expect a tour sendoff party. Possibly monday. Somewhere.

Moorland had their cd release party in Muskegon last week. Lots of kids came out. Hopefully they sold lots of cds. Anthony threw down for Muskegon that night. And Jesus. But mostly Muskegon. The same night Hero Dishonest from Finland played in Muskegon in the hippie basement. Very cool. Jimmy Griswald approves. Totally awesome punk rock. Muskegon going world wide. World wide baby.

Cocksnot blew through muskegon last wednesday too, the same night as metal madness at the fruitport library basement. At fruitport was Time of Plague, Gaza, Thumbscrew, The Network, and CannonXBall. Metal madness. Check out Gaza Muskegon. I think you would approve. I went and saw them, and I for sure did.

Sock has new solo project going... solo sock. Its called Xcess Vomit. At least there is one X in it. True Muskegon style. XmuskegonX. Nah. DRINKmuskegonDRINK. Much better. Check him out.

Word on the street: Wack Trucks may play Muskegon one more time. More news on that as rumors and lies fly in.

Here is a quick update on what I know about music in Muskegon.

As of now i hear through the grapevine that panacea is on some kind of hiatus or something. Hope not. Taking their place, Sheepherder is back at at, hittin' the show circuit and getting their full stack of sound to a basement/hall/ice pick near you. And they are going to be recording soon too. And to add to it... can we say texas bay city? I know lowlife can.

Lowlife is going to be having their CD release party Saturday August 19th with other awesome bands playing also, keep reading to find out more on that. And then, if you guys come and buy tons of fuckin' lowlife cds, maybe they will be about to make it down to Texas and the Bay Area to play some shows too. We can only hope. Hope you buy their shit. Shirts, CDs, Posters, lots of awesome shit. Im sure if you wanna touch them, you can.

Merkit was awesome this weekend, Duckbomb was pretty fun, and Loaded for Bear shreded some faces off. Totally awesome. If you missed out, your a lame ass. Sucks to be you.

This friday (7.21.06) is the return of Endless Mike and the Beagle Club along with Of Choir and Chaos, Ashdance, Brad Dowdy's Great Adventure, Oakpark, and anyone who really shows up with an acoustic guitar. Seriously. Come play. Doors at 6:30 music at 7. 5 bucks. Fruitport library basement.

Sunday (7.23.06) is the Spring Lake Sewage festival right there behind chapter 11 skate shop. I never been there, but apparently its pretty easy to find. Its an all day fest including Ned Nibiru, Marshall Plan, and I do beleive the heerder of sheep is going to come together and play again. For those of you who dont get that, its Sheepheerder. I dont know how to spell. Lame.

Then again on August 12 (8.12.06) is Cocksnot, Panacea, and Anyrism at the Ice Pick. come out. I can imagine same time as above. 3 bucks. Thats why the flyer tells.

August 19th (8.19.06) is going to be a show in grand haven at the Grand Haven VFW including Ned Nibiru, Lowlife, First Strike, and possibly La Dispute. We will have to see.

September 9th (9.9.06) Hope for August and Moorland along with some others are probably going to be playing a show somewhere in West Michigan, a venue is undecided. Its going to be good... maybe.

so it's about time for a long over-due update...but not much has changed.

it should be common knowledge that the warehouse is over, but the old hippy house is being reoccupied, so maybe there is hope for more basement shows in muskegon. the ice pick has been slow this season. i did go to a show at the daac, which turned out to be alright. it just seems that shows have been few and far between...especially good shows. no offense.

as for browneyepie, the new columns kinda petered out quick. i want to keep the site going, so i guess at the moment this is my new plan. as you already know, living where i do, i'm really out of the loop. for the time being i'm thinking fuck the columns, but the news, rumors, and lies section is where it's at- this is where you come in. send that shit in!!! i'll post shows again if people want them posted, it's up to you. i really don't want browneyepie to end, even though it seems inevitable someday, just like everything else. i still give a fuck about this, but i'm sure it gets old reading that i'm in lansing and it sucks. so i guess this is my cry for help with this...again.

i'm really glad that today is the last day of february. what a lame ass month.

and finally, this is all of the band news that i currently know: badcocks have not practiced since xmas and are still on hiatus... lowlife is scattered all over western michigan with nowhere to practice... twat force five is still on hiatus, or dead- i still haven't heard from rachel... and sheepherder has had a few practices and is working on an epic new song to slit your wrists to... deadstock is dead, but that is old news... muskegon's newest two-piece, the showers, have been arguously practicing and have an upcoming show at the icepick in april... and word on the streets is that there will be a second tribute to transvestites show coming soon, i'm not sure who's playing yet!!!

my reading list this month: catcher in the rye by j.d. salinger, and evasion (finally...) by anonymous. both very excellent books and worth the read... and black revolutionairy poet leroi jones. check him out.

as for new music, i haven't heard shit. i've been stuck listening to the same old shit. i don't even think it's worth mentioning. i'm jonesin' to go to the record store soooo bad. i even have money right now. a fucking benjamin in my wallet- no shit. totally legal too. what a square- especially by NOT going directly to the record store. now THAT is a drag...

a couple columns for this week so far. on from me and one from jessi- did you ever read punk rock love in an issue of COMETBUS? i'll post it soon just because it was probably one of my all time favorite cometbus stories. anyways, jessi decided to take a whack at it herself, and it's pretty fucking good. my column is alright i guess. a little lansing, a little muskegon...through a little of what's up int the mix and there you have a well balanced column for the week. i'll be away from my computer until friday afternoon, so nothing else new until then. enjoy!

i can't believe that the police still find this site that interesting... the following is taken from casey's livejournal: ...but just as we were riding a cop drives by, next thing we know we look back and we see the fucker squeal his wheels doing a U turn in the middle of the road, bam fucking lights come on, and out of knowhere seriously, a second comp car cuts us off.
the first thing i said was, WHAT DID WE DO!? and he says with those bandanas over your face we couldnt tell if you wer 18 or not.... psh WHAT!? so we say were 18 and 19. then after some more mumbo jumbo he said that he was just trying to Phychologically intimidate us by squeeling his wheels and spining around and chasing us down... LAME
when they asked us where we were headed, we said to a friends, and he then asked us if we were doing a SCAVENGER HUNT FOR DEREK....!?!?! and we were like WHAT!? and he said derek from BROWNEYEPIE.... what the fuck!? and we were just like i dont know what you are talking about, and he said good.
so he said have a good night, so we rode off.

muskegon has been a part of my life for a long time, and i find it hard to believe that the police do not have anything better to do than to hassle a couple kids on bikes. seriously. since i opened my mouth i guess that means it's my turn for some more harrassment. i fucking hope not... LEAVE ME ALONE! LEAVE MY FRIENDS ALONE! no one is breaking the law. at worst we're helping to keep people off the streets and away from crime. that should leave the boys in blue to take care of all of the violent crimes in this city: spousal abbuse, rape, armed robbery, etc. we don't carry weapons. we don't hurt people. the worst some of us have done is put paint on a wall. PAINT ON A WALL! and that seems to be in the past. browneyepie is here to help bring a sense of community, unity, and well being for a lot of misguided, misled, misunderstood people. that should not scare you. you should rejoice. there are other people in the city that actually care. hard to believe, i know, but it's true. i've paid my dues, my fines, and spent my time in jail. truce?
